We formed Root Design Build Inc. in January of 2008 when VJ Construction, a building company with sixteen years experience, expanded to offer its clients a full building package that includes design services. The new firm emphasized sustainability—and a holistic approach that became sharper with the ability to implement green principles beginning in the design phase.

The focus on green principles doesn’t end with building design, however. We apply these same principles to the complete building cycle, which includes:

• increasing the efficiency with which buildings use resources such as energy, water, and materials
• reducing building impact on human health and the environment through better site selection, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal

Root Design Build Inc. approaches each of our projects with this cycle in mind. Our entire team is involved at all stages in the process, which encourages clear communication and the ability to make the best decisions possible. The design build approach increases our efficiency and cuts down on time while creating a better product—a sustainable idea.

We provide our services in the Portland metro area, as well as in the Columbia Gorge. Our goal is to create beautiful spaces that are healthy, efficient, supportive of the local economy, and good for the planet. We implement our principles on a wide scale, from custom homes to large additions and small remodels. The projects come in a variety of sizes and styles but the integrity of the spaces and the level of craftsmanship are always at the highest level.
